Melina Chatzivangeli completed her studies in the department of Theory and History of Art at ASFA in 2015. The same year she began metalsmithing, jewelry designing and wax carving classes. In 2018, she launched Melie C. Jewelry Studio, which she uses as a channel to combine the creation of quality jewelry that act as lucky amulets and a source of inspiration, full of magic, made to remind to the wearer of its power and true essence.
Alongside with metalsmithing, she also channels her creativity through painting, fashion design, and other means, which help her give a visual expression to her inner world and celebrate individuality through ethereal and unexpected creations.
Artist’s Statement
“Since I was little, I found myself mesmerized by anything glittering and magical. I will never forget the first time I saw my mother’s jewelry box. As I touched all the beautiful gemstones, it felt like I was entering a different world. While I was growing up, I was searching for different ways to recreate that feeling and this is how I found my calling in the magical world of handmade jewelry.”
“Yoni” Collection
Sacred femininity, fertility, sensuality.
Inspired by Gustave Courbet’s “L’ origin du monde”, the “Yoni” series is an ongoing project that wants to connect us with one of our most powerful energy centers inside our body, which provide us with the divine spark of creativity. In many ancient civilizations, this center was considered not only as a part of our human body where we share physical pleasure but it also played a big role to the exchange of energies and manifesting them to life.
In an effort to depict the lightweight, alluring and welcoming feminine energy, the series open a dialogue with the viewer and try to evoke different feelings in order to transcend from the physical form to the cosmic energies until we find this universal power that is held within us, despite stereotypes and social norms.
